About the Duo

Elsa Nilsson and Jon Cowherd have played in the duo format since 2013. Something happens when the two of them get on a stage together. Time ceases to exist and the air stands still. The vulnerability of the duo setting sucks the listener in, almost like they are overhearing something they aren’t supposed to.

The music Nilsson composes for this project addresses deep, dark secrets and fears. The kind of secrets that we might even be keeping from ourselves. "After Us", the duos first record together released in October of 2018, deals with issues around death and dying, how we perceive ourselves and each other in these moments and how we move on. Much of the music on this album was written for or about Nilsson’s father who passed away February 27th, 2018. He was the first to hear this album as it played by his hospital bed as he passed. "It was the only way I could say goodbye since there was no way to make it to Sweden in time in person" said Nilsson. And in a way it felt like a more real presence.

Nilsson and Cowherd released their duo record “After Us” in October of 2018 and it spent 10 weeks on the NACC charts topping out at number 9 and 17 weeks on the Roots Music Report charts topping out at number 10.
