About Private Lessons
Teaching private students goes way beyond sharing information to me. When a student comes to me, I want them to walk away feeling a little bit better about themselves and the world. In the lessons we talk about what it takes to create music that matters. Depending on the level of the student this might be a technical conversation about scales, chords and other theoretical concepts, or a philosophical conversation about communication and integrity within the notes we play. Likely, every lesson will have some of both. I meet my students where they are, and work to expand their gaze in any way I can. Some lessons become about how to use practice time well, being effective without putting unnecessary pressure on oneself. Some lessons become about music analysis and emotional intent and communication. With every student I work to give them glimpses into versions of themselves they maybe haven’t imagined yet, and show them a path to the work that needs to get done to get there.
